Visit to SCC

Our visit to SCC involved meeting with a large portion the very enthusiastic faculty members in the Math Dept. The environment there was very encouraging of Math Ed research and math teachers who were continuously trying to better their teaching skills. The focus was very much on teaching and research strictly in Math Education. The faculty members do not have any research requirements, but continued research and learning seemed to be highly encouraged. Some of the faculty has received PhD’s in Math Education and others are currently working towards that goal. The pay ranges from 35K-85K based on years worked & number of credits received past the Masters level. The classrooms were absolutely beautiful. Math classes never exceed 19 people. Speaking as someone from Math Ed, it looked like a very fun, encouraging & positive environment to work. For focus in applied Math, this option may not be as attractive.
